Standing in the Gap was created in honor of Ajike “AJ” Owens—a mother of four whose life was tragically taken by racial violence—and countless others lost to this persistent reality in America.

We respond to the trauma of race-based violence by easing financial burdens for families and resourcing communities in their healing journeys. Grounded in justice, healing, and culture, we partner with artists and organizers to harness Black cultural traditions as tools for restoration, resilience, and change.

Funds from the Standing in the Gap Fund support families and organizers in the most critical spaces of healing as they navigate their journeys.
